All that you have to do is ensure that you are following all the steps required by the electrician board in your state. In the case of the contracting companies they will have licensed electricians who will do for the residences along with some of the people who do not have licenses. A journeyman electrician license holder can have as many as three people with no license working under them. A master electrician can have many more than these. However, unless you have a license you may not be able to work independently. Of course, with in these two categories of licenses given, they are further divided as residential and commercial. If you want to become a residential electrician then you need to first become a residential journeyman electrician and then move on to become the master electrician residential for the purpose. The residential electrician will have to go through the process of qualifying for a written exam. The qualification is to have a Grade 12 marked out and certificate of the secondary school. Only if you have all these you can qualify in terms of education. In terms of experience, the people need to have at least seven years in most of the states for the test that has to be done. In some of the cases the boards might be waiving it depending on the nature of work that you are at. If you have gathered relevant and considerable experience then the same might be waived. How ever, the standard practice is to have a qualifying exam at the end of the apprenticeship which you need to take in order to become a residential electrician. Normally, this is done after the apprenticeship is over. In order words, any one of the licensed electrician need to concur that you have server under them for the period specified. In addition to this, you might have to pass the exam that is normally held for getting the residential electrician certification. Once you have completed all these, you are in the line for getting your license. This normally comes in as an ID card along with the license.
