What Does An Industrial Electrician Do?You will find an industrial electrician working in most of the industries. If you are an industrial electrician you might be working at a steel mill or a petrochemical company. As a matter of fact, you might be working in any of the companies that are large. For every one of them would require a person like you. You will be the person who will install all the electrical machines and even electronic equipments in the company. Once installed you will be the person who will operate and maintain these equipments too. That makes a complete industrial electrician. Right, if this is what you will have to do, what are the skills that you should have to practice? In order to get into the training for an industrial electrician you need to have passed Grade 12 in the first place. You should be holding your secondary school certificate and should have mathematics and physics in your major course credits. These are the qualifying levels that you should have crossed even before you can think of becoming an electrician. After this you can give your apprenticeship with any of the licensed electrician in the respective area. This has to be at least for another 9000 hours in most of the states. There could be a waiver if you have done additional exams and certifications. During your apprenticeship you are expected to pass a few other tests and apprenticeship certification exams. Only if you cross them successfully you will get the journeyman certification for the industrial electrician. When you are apprentice you will get a lesser wage rate compared to a journeyman. When you become a full fledged industrial electrician you will be able to command a wage rate of USD 19 to USD 30. But then a journeyman will get a wage that is lesser than the full fledged electrician. You need to of course, grow in your trade over a period of time. Wages would be better if you should specialize yourself over a period of time. For instance, people who are in the robotics and other such niche groups operating computer controlled equipments and devices could command a higher wage rate when compared with the others. So it is the career path that you choose that is going to decide on how you will grow over a period in time. At the end of the training that you go through, you might find yourself capable of reading the drawings, particularly the electrical drawings. Every industrial electrician is expected to under stand the code specifications; and should be capable of installing, repairing and maintaining the electrical wiring, switch boxes and other electrical gadgets and equipments. Your job will also involve working at high voltages in some cases. Therefore, knowledge of safety and first aid is also insisted in most of the apprentice programs.
